Indoor Growing

What's a spacebucket? That's how this all got started. I've never been all that interested in growing anything. My co-workers talk about what seeds they are ordering for this season and how they are going to keep the critters out of the garden this year. *Snore* But this was a little more cyberpunk, like a docker instance for green things.

I also like anything that is well documented and has a well defined community around it. Like the spacebucket builder, a perfect jumping off point. This project mixes DIY, inexpensive electronics, lots of options and just happens to involve plants (more specifically one plant)

One of the over-riding factors in any of my micro-obsessions is the direct correlation between the amount of gadgets involved and how deep I dive in. So one quick jump from spacebuckets to the larger indoor growing scene and I was in a deep hole. Reading the spacebucket subreddit I found mention of growmau5's awesome youtube channel. He's experimenting with DIY grow lights using Chip-On-Board high wattage Cree LEDs.

This guy is doing some of the best DIY builds I've ever seen in making never mind growing. Check out the Canopy 10, built with 80/20 and waterjet cut parts:
Lighting is obviously a never ending source of new things to learn LEDs High Pressure Sodium, Metal-halide, plasma, light emitting ceramic, the list goes on. Here is a good overview:

Oh and grow tents, these things remind me of some illicit operation in a warehouse in sweden and someone with big pockets at the reigns. I need some of that in my life. Maybe when I buy a house. All I can think to grow in this thing is some should-be-illegal super hot ghost peppers.tent

Ever since I was a kid there was nothing better than some huge catalog from some niche industry. Indoor growing has a few big distributors Hydrofarm, Sunlight Supply. Go find their PDF's for a never ending array of choices. I have my money-is-no-object spreadsheet open in the other window. I'm going to need an electrician.
